What does your job entail?
"My job entails many different aspects, and no two days are the same, but that's what I love about it. If I had to wrap everything up, I'd say it is customer service. At our school, we go above and beyond to make sure our families are receiving the full "Goddard Experience." It is important to greet all of our families, and my director and I make a point to be a part of the drop off and pick up process. My job is the best of both worlds. I get to work with children every day, receive their love and play with them. But, I also get to manage the business side of things. It's a bonus to be working alongside our wonderful teachers and supportive parents."
Are there any parts of your job you particularly enjoy?
"My job is enjoyable in different ways every day. I love being able to go in a classroom to play with the children as a stress reliever or give away stickers and get my daily hugs at pick up time. My interactions with the children are one of the most rewarding parts of my job. However, I could not do my job without my director, Sarah, by my side and our amazing teachers. They're really what makes our school function. Our teachers create remarkable lessons to support the foundation for learning at such a young age. I'm always amazed to see what fun they're having while learning at school. The children are doing yoga, learning Spanish and participating in S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) activities to prepare themselves to be 21st Century learners."
Has your education prepared you for your current position?
"My degree definitely prepared me to take on this position because it is a very interpersonal role. Many of the skill sets I learned in pursuing my degree have helped me in owning my business. In regards to being in a preschool setting, I have the experience and preparation from my parents and business partners. They have owned and operated a Goddard School in Sparks, NV since 2008."
Any advice for someone seeking a similar career?
"My advice for those interested in opening their own Goddard School is to embrace themselves in the culture and research what they're getting themselves into. I couldn't be happier with my decision to pursue this career path, but it takes a lot of hard work and determination to make the school the best it can be for the children, families, teachers and the community."
