Antelope Barbershop Giving Picture-Perfect Cuts

ANTELOPE (CBS13) - There's another way to show off a body art masterpiece that's as temporary as a haircut.

A barbershop in Antelope is taking the old-fashioned trim and style and turning it into art.

It starts with a pencil, inspiration, and a form of imagination. In minutes, that quick trim or buzz cut could be the Virgin Mary or even Tupac Shakur.

"I try to mimic it in the hair where other guys can actually do it and bring it to life. It's more than an art form now than it's ever been," said Timmel Pittman.

Upperkutz in Antelope is creating portraits of your favorite celebrity right into your hair.

"The shading, the hair is different. If you cut something it's pretty much like a tattoo. You have to wait until it grows out," said Gabe Rios.

The barbershop artists use razors for blending, but that can come with some challenges.

"We take a big risk because if we make a mistake then they end up with something they didn't want and we send out a product we don't like," said Pittman.

For Upperkutz, there is no portrait too hard to cut. The barbers will do everything from Ray Charles to even showing support to your favorite sporting team.

"We have to be skilled and we take our time to produce what the customer wants. It makes it difficult but we love it because it's a challenge," said Pittman.

The designs last about a week and can cost anywhere from $20 and up.
