Yellin, Kiernan Win Anderson

The team of Tom Yellin and Jack Kiernan from Greenwich, Connecticut sank five birdies for wins to beat the team of Alan Fadel and Russ Berkoben from Toledo, Ohio by the score of 5 and 4 in the finals of the 63rd Anderson Memorial Four Ball Championship held Sunday at the Winged Foot Golf Club.

Named in honor of the late Winged Foot member John G. Anderson, the renown amateur who won two French Amateurs and was the runner-up in two U.S. Amateurs in the early 1900s, the Anderson Memorial championship is the only major four ball amateur tournament to take place during the summer season and attracts some of the top amateurs throughout the country.

The tournament's best ball format is similar to the Walker Cup and the Ryder cup team matches. This year's Anderson Memorial field had 64 two man teams attempting to qualify for just 16 slots.

The field included five Walker Cup players as well as several former collegiate All-Americans and various state amateur champions.

The 36-hole qualifying Medallist honors went to the team of Jody Fanagqan and Noel Fox from Dublin, Ireland with a two-round total of seven-under-par 134.
