Wrestler Jerry Lawler, girlfriend accused of domestic violence

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Police in Tennessee say wrestler Jerry "The King" Lawler and his girlfriend have been arrested on charges of domestic violence.

Officers arrested the 66-year-old Lawler and 27-year-old Lauryn McBride after responding to a call at Lawler's home Thursday night in East Memphis.

An arrest affidavit that says the couple told officers they got into an argument that turned violent, but both told police the other was the attacker. In the affidavit, police describe both as victims but say both were arrested because they couldn't determine who was the primary aggressor.

McBride told police Lawler held her against the kitchen counter. She said Lawler hit her on the head, pushed her against the stove, and then put an unloaded pistol on the counter and told her: "go ahead and kill yourself."

Lawler told a different story to investigators. She said the two argued because McBride lied about where she had been. He said the argument turned physical when McBride scratched his face, threw a candle at him and kicked him in the groin. He told investigators McBride was threatening to kill herself and that she knew where there was an unloaded revolver in the garage.

Lawler said McBride was drunk and he was trying to stop her from leaving in her car. The affidavit says the couple has lived together for the past 5 years.

Online jail records don't indicate whether either has an attorney. Both are scheduled to be in court Monday.

World Wrestling Entertainment said in a statement Friday it has suspended Lawler due to the arrest.

"WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Jerry Lawler has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest," said the statement, released to CBS affiliate WREG.
