(CBS) Hard to believe a dreadlocked comedienne would smoke pot, right? But in a viral video that recently surfaced, Whoopi Goldberg admits that she was so nervous at the 1991 Academy Awards that she had to blaze to calm down.

The clip, which first appeared on TMZ and is dated Aug. 9, 1992, shows "The View" co-host in a recording session for the animated film "The Pagemaster" describing the scene when she won Best Supporting Actress for "Ghost." Apparently she had an attack of nerves.

"So I smoked this wonderful joint that was the last of my home grown," Goldberg says in the video.

"When he [presenter Denzel Washington] said my name I popped up," she says. "Okay, up the stairs, around to the podium, there's millions of people, pick up the statue, get the statue."

Apparently, she wasn't convincing enough for her mother. Goldberg says in the clip that her mother saw her "glistening eyes" and called later to scold her.

"I know you're not supposed to admit that you smoke pot, but I don't drink alcohol," Goldberg says. "Just because I do it doesn't mean you should."
