Whitey Bulger Update: Reputed mob boss' trial to feature drug dealers, prison calls

(AP) BOSTON - Jurors in the racketeering trial of James "Whitey" Bulger will get to hear from Bulger himself this week as prosecutors plan to introduce some of Bulger's recorded jailhouse phone conversations.

The 83-year-old Bulger is accused of participating in 19 killings during the 1970s and `80s while he allegedly ran the Winter Hill Gang. He's pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutor Brian Kelly said Friday prosecutors plan to call seven or eight witnesses Monday and Tuesday, including the daughter of a murder victim and former drug dealers who will testify that Bulger's gang extorted money from them.

The phone calls to be introduced are those Bulger had while at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility since after his capture in Santa Monica, Calif., in 2011.

There will be no testimony Wednesday through Friday for the Independence Day holiday.
