Waco Survivors Can Sue

The federal government is about to be hauled into court to answer for the Waco standoff.

A federal judge has cleared the way for a multi-million dollar lawsuit that blames the government for the fiery end of the Branch Davidian standoff in 1993.

U.S. District Judge Walter Smith Jr. ruled that the case can reach trial.

Survivors claim Washington is responsible for the deaths at the Branch Davidian compound. Their suit takes issue with the government's conclusion that David Koresh and his followers fired first during a raid.

Attorney General Janet Reno is among the defendants, along with other FBI and ATF officials.

Mike Caddell is a lead attorney for the Davidians. He said they are looking forward to their day in court. But that could take another year or two.

Koresh and about 80 followers died in the fire that consumed their compound.
