Video: Chase for Texas Gas Thief

A multicounty chase that lasted at least 90 minutes ended when authorities spun a pickup truck into a water-filled ditch along a rural road.

A police dispatcher in the small north Texas town of Melissa, 35 miles north of Dallas, says the chase began Friday morning after the driver of the pickup allegedly drove off from a gas station in nearby Van Alstyne without paying.

The dispatcher says the motorist then almost hit an officer while evading a spike strip deployed to deflate the truck tires.

The motorist evaded numerous spike strips on freeways and wound through Corsicana, about 55 miles south of Dallas. The chase ended in the Corsicana area.

News reports estimated the truck reached top speeds of 70-75 mph, but it was traveling much slower when the chase ended.
