The Taliban Reacts To Obama's Election
The Taliban seems to be cautiously hopeful that peace could finally be brought to Afghanistan after the election of Senator Barack Obama as president of the United States.
In their first reaction to the election, the Taliban posted a statement on their website in which they blamed all the chaos that resulted from the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan on President Bush, and saw in Obama's election a reflection of the American people's desire to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The group also stressed on Obama's pledge not to follow the same policies adopted by President Bush, and warned him that if he did, the democrats would meet an even "more shameful defeat" than the Republicans.
President-elect Obama had promised repeatedly during his campaign to focus on the war in Afghanistan and on catching Bin Laden.
