The Real March Madness: Sexual Misconduct And American Sports Culture

By Bonnie Erbe, Thomas Jefferson Street blog.

Speaking of March Madness (as some of us did earlier this week) here's another reason why I find American sports culture so vile. According to a complaint filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a Binghamton University sports fundraiser accused two senior athletic department officials of "egregious acts of sexual misconduct," saying they encouraged donors as the donors were offering her money for sex.

Here's a smattering of what she had to endure:

Williams alleges that during a dinner, the two school officials encouraged several donors as the donors offered her money for sex, discussed her chest size and suggested she work as a topless waitress at an event.

It's the fact that in much of macho sports culture, this type of immature, offensive behavior is considered normal and the guys who partake in it don't even get the fact that this is no longer acceptable or tolerated and has not been in several decades.
