The Prince Of Peace

This column was written by CBS News Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith.

So it's finally here — the holiday. Or Christmas. Or the Christmas Holiday. Whatever it is, it's here and aren't we happy to have a little time off?

The Christmas argument has dominated the airwaves plenty the last couple of weeks. Angry Christians demanding the secular world recognize them and the birthday they celebrate.

All that anger makes me uncomfortable. Wasn't Jesus supposed to be the Prince of Peace? I know he overturned the tables of the money changers at the temple, but gentle is what you're supposed to get when you think of Jesus. Not strident. Not angry. But gentle.

I get the argument — in our efforts to be politically correct we can't even say the name of the day most of the country celebrates. That's silly.

What would Jesus do? My guess: He wouldn't care. He'd be with poor, the hungry and the sick.
