The New International Symbol For "Run!"

(International Atomic Energy Agency)
The International Atomic Energy Agency, the UN's nuclear watchdog, is grabbing tons of headlines this morning for its latest report, which confirmed that Iran is expanding efforts toward a uranium enrichment program.

There's another piece of information out of the IAEA lately thats gotten somewhat lost in the news cycle: there's a new international symbol for radiation (or, as Foreign Policy's blog puts it, the international symbol for panic.)

And, as you'll note from the graphic on the left, the message is not subtle. They arrived at the new image (the old one was just the three cornered trefoil) after conducting a five-year study among 1,650 people in 11 countries "to develop a symbol that will scare people of all ages, nationalities and education levels," writes

Mission accomplished.
