"The Defenders" Brings Vegas Lawyers to CBS
NEW YORK (CBS) Courtroom drama-comedy "The Defenders" premiered on Wednesday night.
The series stars Jim Belushi, who plays Nick Morelli i, while Jerry O'Connell plays his law firm partner Pete Kaczmarek, who is a bit of a ladies' man with a heart of gold.
Also in their law firm - Morelli & Kaczmarek - is new associate Lisa Tyler (played by Jurnee Smollett), a former stripper turned lawyer; and their assistant Sophie, played by Tanya Fischer.
Plus, Gillian Vigman plays Jessica, Nick's estranged wife.
The firm's clients include showgirls and prostitutes, in the series opener, the big case they take on involves an accidental shooting, and the shooter is being tried for murder. Belushi and O'Connell tag-team during the trial, with Belushi playing a smart guy playing dumb, walking a fun line between Jack McCoy and "My Cousin Vinny."
Reviews of "The Defenders" have been mixed with some thinking it works, while others saying the mixture of comedy and drama falls flat, and the characters aren't interesting or as developed as they need to be.
It's still early to call, but what are your opinions of the series so far?
