Texas man jailed in teen's murder faces charges in 2nd death

SAN ANTONIO -- A San Antonio man jailed on charges of capital murder and sexual assault in the death of a 15-year-old has also been charged in the death of a 29-year-old woman.

San Antonio police said Friday that 28-year-old Johnny Avalos had been charged with murder in the death of 29-year-old Celia Lopez, whose body was found April 15.

When the charge was announced in Lopez's death, Avalos was already in jail on charges of capital murder and sexual assault of a child in the death of 15-year-old Natalie Chavez, whose body was found under a bridge in December 2014.

Avalos was arrested April 21 on the sexual assault charge, after admitting to having sex with the teen, who was found strangled to death under a bridge in December 2014, reported CBS affiliate KENS. He was later charged with murder in the girl's death.

Avalos remained in Bexar County jail Sunday on more than $1 million bond.

An attorney listed for him didn't immediately return a message.
