Ted Nugent to attend State of the Union as guest of GOP congressman

Ted Nugent may not be the first person who comes to mind when you think about President Barack Obama's State of the Union address, set for Tuesday night.

But the right-wing rocker is expected to attend Mr. Obama's speech as a guest of Republican Rep. Steve Stockman of Texas.

"I am excited to have a patriot like Ted Nugent joining me in the House Chamber to hear from President Obama," Stockman said in a statement. "After the Address I'm sure Ted will have plenty to say."

Nugent told The New York Times, "I will be there with a deep, abiding respect for the office of the presidency. I'm not here to represent any specific cause other than freedom and independence and 'we the people.'"

Stockman and Nugent share similar beliefs on many hot-button political issues. Stockman had said he wanted to impeach Mr. Obama over his gun control proposals. And in a speech to the National Rifle Association last year, Nugent said he would either be "dead or in jail" if Mr. Obama were re-elected for a second term. So far, he's neither.

Nugent, meanwhile, will hit the road this April with Styx and REO Speedwagon on a tour that stretches through the end of May.
