Stone Calls Working On 'Bobby' A Privilege

Sharon Stone is one of the many stars appearing in the film "Bobby." She plays a hairdresser who runs the beauty shop in the Ambassador Hotel where Robert Kennedy was shot in 1968.

It's an opportunity for her to be a part of a project that she said not only drew from some of the best talent in Hollywood, but is meaningful to her.

"It's just such a privilege and such an extraordinary experience, I think, for any artist to reach a point where you have an opportunity to bring the sum of your life's experience and the sum of your experience as an artist together, and your desire to see your country improve," she told The Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith.

Robert Kennedy was shot after he celebrated winning the California primary and appeared to be headed towards the Democratic nomination for president. To many, he epitomized hope and idealism after his brother, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated. Stone said she still sees the Kennedy family as important figures in the United States.

"I think the Kennedys still have this understanding that it's more important to be a leader than a politician," she said.

"Bobby" is directed by Emilio Estevez and boasts of a star-studded cast that includes Laurence Fishburne, Martin Sheen, Lindsay Lohan and Anthony Hopkins. Stone said that she loved working with actress Demi Moore, who plays a drunken actress.

"She's amazing to work with," Stone said. "She's so nuanced and so subtle and she plays a very edgy, difficult character to bring off with this kind of profoundly heart breaking subtlety. She's extraordinary in this movie."

Both Stone and Moore have received some Oscar buzz for their performances. But also this year, Stone starred in the box-office bomb, "Basic Instinct 2." She said having poorly received films is part of her job.

"When you've had a long career, nobody has not made movies that aren't successful," she said. "It's your job, not a hobby."
