Sam Smith is the voice behind new James Bond "Spectre" theme song

It's official: Sam Smith is singing the theme song for the new James Bond film.

Called "Writing's On The Wall," the song will debut on Sept. 25. It marks the first James Bond theme song recorded by a British male solo artist since 1965.

"This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honored to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song," Smith said in a statement. "I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it."

Earlier this summer, there had been speculation that the Grammy-winning singer might be the voice behind the theme song for "Spectre."

And on Monday, Smith, 23, tweeted this major hint: a photo with a ring featuring the "Spectre" logo.

If that's not a clue, we don't know what is.

Previous Bond-theme singers include Shirley Bassey, Paul McCartney, Carly Simon, Duran Duran and most recently, Adele.

"Spectre," directed by Sam Mendes, stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Monica Bellucci, Christoph Waltz, Ben Whishaw and Stephanie Sigman

The film lands in theaters on Nov. 6.
