President Obama (Sadly) Not in "Whoomp" Video

After creating a media frenzy by suggesting President Obama may have been an extra in the music video for the Tag Team hit "Whoomp! (There it is)," the website Gawker has brought us the sad news that the president did not make a cameo in the 1993 video.

The blog came to the conclusion after contacting the creators of the video, Tag Team's DC the Brain Supreme and Steve Roll'N, who told them that the man talking on his cell phone at the 1:01 mark in the video is, in fact, not Mr. Obama. (Watch at left.)

"Nah, it's not the President of the United States," DC the Brain Supreme told Gawker. "But it really does look like Obama."

According to the interview, the man is actually a friend of the two rappers who goes by the name L.A. Sno. And despite his striking resemblance to Mr. Obama in the video, Steve Roll'N said he looks nothing like the president in real life.

"He's got a pill head. Like, a square pill head," he said. "He looks nothing like Obama. Obama's head is round. And he's got big ears. They just got that one frame shot that just looks like him."

The frenzy surrounding the rumor picked up when Gawker published a post last Saturday noting that blogs and websites were making the comparison. Among those who picked up on the potential cameo was the Tea Party group Tennessee Sons of Liberty.

Since then, the story has been covered by a number of news outlets, including CNN and Fox News, and was featured on the Colbert Report last night.
