Phil Collins Does His 'Best'

Phil Collins has won six Grammy Awards and sold more than 80 million records. But he has never released a "Best of" collection - until now. It's titled simply Â…Hits, and it includes seven songs that hit the top of the music charts when they were first released.

The only new song is a cover of True Colors, a hit for Cyndi Lauper in 1986, reports CBS This Morning Co-Anchor Mark McEwen. Collins says he chose the song because he was busy writing music and lyrics for Disney's upcoming Tarzan movie and did not have time to write an original for the album.

But, he adds, "I love singing others' songs...and I love True Colors. It has lovely chords - a lovely song."

Also among the collection are Another Day In Paradise (1989), Against All Odds and Separate Lives (1987), One More Night and Sussudio (1988), and Groovy Kind of Love (1990).

Collins, 47, says he sees his bandmates from Genesis more often than people might think. They had dinner together in July and, a couple of months before that, gathered to shoot photos for their new CD box set.

"We get along great and always have," he says. "[The media] love to think there is a bit of bitchiness and infighting. But it isn't the case. We love each other very much."

Genesis Archive 1967-75 covers the development of Genesis. Collins became the band's drummer in 1970. After Peter Gabriel left Genesis in 1975, Collins also took over lead vocals. He stayed with the group until 1995.

Collins, a lifelong fan of Big Band music, recently toured with a 20-piece band, sometimes featuring Tony Bennett as a special guest.

The musician also dabbles in acting, and his film credits include Frauds (1993) and Buster (1988). He provided the voice for one of the cartoon pooches in the animated feature Balto (1995).

In his private life, Collins has two grown children, Joely (a well-known actress in Canada) and Simon (an aspiring musician), from his first marriage. He has another daughter, Lily, from a second marriage that lasted 10 years. A couple of months ago, he told a newspaper that he would like to have more children with his girlfriend, Orianne Cevey.
