Oscars 2016: Why Stacey Dash took the stage

Not sure why Stacey Dash was on the Oscars stage?

Chris Rock introduced the former "Clueless" star by joking, "To introduce the new director of our minority outreach program, please welcome Miss Stacey Dash."

"I cannot wait to help my people out. Happy Black History Month! Thank you," she said as she giggled.

If you're wondering what that was all about, here's the joke: Dash is an avowed hater of BET and Black History Month.

The black actress feuded with BET and said, "If we don't want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET, and the BET Awards and the Image Awards, where you're only awarded if you're black. If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It's a double standard." BET hit back and asked her for their money back from a TV movie she was in for the channel.

She also said, "BET lies to American black people by telling them that the rest of America is racist, so stick close to your own kind. Anything that promotes segregation is bad! And they're absolutely mortified that someone like me -- an independent-thinking black woman -- dares call their bluff."

The conservative pundit also mocked the #OscarsSoWhite boycott and said, "I think it's ludicrous because we have to make up our minds. Either we want segregation or integration."

Still don't get the joke? Yeah, we can't help you there, but we get the feeling Dash is very pleased with her Oscars invitation.

At the very least, Chrissy Teigen certainly found the moment awkward. After she was caught making a face at the Oscars, she explained that it was because of the Stacey Dash joke.
