One Day After Surgery, Kennedy Is Up And About

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy is walking the hallways of his hospital, reading the newspaper and ready for his return to Cape Cod for further recovery, his office said this morning.

Thanks to a successful brain surgery that removed a malignant tumor Monday, the statements from Kennedy's office have become increasingly optimistic. Kennedy's office said Tuesday that he had a restful night's sleep and "he is experiencing no complications, and has been walking the hallways, spending time with family and actively keeping up with the news of the day."

Kennedy expects to fly back to Cape Cod next week from Durham, N.C., where he underwent brain surgery at the Duke University Medical Center. After recovering from surgery, Kennedy will undergo a course of radiation and chemotherapy treatment in the coming weeks.

Kennedy has not indicated when he will return to the Senate.
