Obama Is Losing His Heat

This column was written by CBS News Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith.

The Indiana and North Carolina Primaries are a week from today. Yes…one more Super Tuesday in a campaign season full of them.

If Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton win both, the smart guys say the Democratic nomination nightmare will finally be over. One of the two will have to step aside.

Won't they? I doubt it.

Hillary Clinton kept running against the pleading of the party poobahs…all while honing her message and waiting for Barack Obama to slip.

Turns out Reverend Wright was an answer to her prayers. The Reverend Wright is the gift who keeps on giving. He has been an omnipresence on the cables, and no amount of explanation can seem to square him with the American public.

A Newsweek poll now shows 40 percent of Americans say they'll never vote for Obama. The junior senator from Illinois who looked so cool on the cover of GQ is losing his heat.

In politics there's nothing worse than a lukewarm candidate.
