N.M. judge charged with rape, alleged attack caught on tape
(CBS/KRQE/AP) ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - New Mexico District Judge Albert "Pat" Murdoch was arrested Tuesday on charges including rape and intimidation of a witness, reports CBS affiliate KRQE.
A court document says a prostitute who accused Murdoch made a videotape of the alleged attack by Albuquerque's top criminal judge.
The complaint against District Judge Pat Murdoch says a detective heard about the tape from an informant and bought it for $400.
Police then questioned the woman, who says Murdoch solicited her on a prostitution website.
The woman says she met with the judge about eight times and he paid her $200 each time. She says he forced himself on her during one visit, but she returned and secretly recorded a second forced encounter.
Murdoch is out on bond. His first court appearance is Thursday.
According to KRQE, Murdoch has presided over several controversial cases, and earlier this year sentenced a former Albuquerque police officer to probation after the officer, who was on duty at the time, was convicted of raping a suspect.
