CBS

(AP) CONCORD, N.H. - A 45-year-old New Hampshire man was indicted on charges of shooting his wife in the stomach and legs through the wall of their bedroom while he was cleaning his gun.

According to the Concord Monitor, Mark Hillson took a 9mm handgun from a safe and was wiping it down on Nov. 13, 2011. The weapon discharged twice and the bullets hit Gina Hillson, 49, who had a phone in her hands at the time and called 911.

Hillson is scheduled to be arraigned on March 13 on charges of reckless conduct and simple assault. The indictments said that Hillson acted recklessly, but not intentionally, when he shot his wife, reports the paper. Gina Hillson survived the shooting and according to the Concord Monitor, declined to give state police permission search her home while she was in the hospital.

Mark Hillson, who has a military background, said he had never seen a gun discharge the way it had that night.
