New footage shows suspect in Brooklyn landlord slaying

Charred body of 39-year-old Menachem Stark discovered in gas station dumpster
Brooklyn landlord kidnapped, burned 01:09

BROOKLYN, New York – A surveillance video released by police on Wednesday reveals a suspect in the kidnapping of Menachem “Max” Stark, the Brooklyn real estate developer whose burned body was discovered in a Long Island dumpster last week, reports CBS New York.

In addition to the video, Wednesday saw the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case upped to $75,000, announced by Stark family friend Rabbi David Niederman.

The recording from this past Thursday night featured a suspect leaving a white van and walking to the corner of Broadway and Rutledge Street near Stark’s office in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Earlier footage showed the 39-year-old struggling against two kidnappers before being shoved into a light-colored 2006 or 2007 Dodge Caravan.

Stark’s body was found the next day, burned in a dumpster at a gas station in Long Island.

Members of the victim’s family refused comment on whether or not they are aware of any possible motive for the crime. Assemblyman Joe Lentol, D-Brooklyn, did offer some speculation of his own.

“He had some money that maybe he was carrying and maybe killed because he had money in his pocket,” Lentol said.

Family and friends of the victim have taken offense to the recent stories assailing Stark’s character, like the New York Post cover that labeled him a “slumlord” with a headline that read, “Who didn’t want him dead?”

“Children do not have a father. A wife doesn’t have a husband. Why? What did he do?” said Niederman.

Stark, father of seven, was a real estate developer.
