It's like a feeding frenzy when collectors find out about new shipments of Beanie Babies. The word travels by Internet and telephone.

The product is so hot that the store has a sales limit. You can only buy one of each style, and collectors know what to look for.
Knowing what the market will bear, buyers often become sellers to subsizize personal collections worth thousands of dollars. A clutter of cats can fetch big cash.

"The last time I came here, I got one of the bears, and I bought it for $5 and sold it within 15 minutes for $50," says one collector.

Some folks get hooked on Beanies because they just can't stay away from a trend. And they'll be back to repeat the drill the very next time there's a new batch of Beanies.
