Monica Hopes To Lose Weight

Some publicly jilted lovers want to get even. Others want to get rich.

Monica Lewinsky wants to get slim.

The former White House intern announced she has been enrolled at a Jenny Craig Inc.'s weight loss program since earlier this summer.

"Anyone who has struggled with excess weight knows that this is a very personal issue, and it's not easy to talk about," said Lewinsky, in a statement released Wednesday on the company's Internet site.

Jenny Craig, the company's co-founder, said that Lewinsky has been motivated since starting the program and is "progressing toward her goals."

The company did not say how much weight Lewinsky intends to lose. Lewinsky, whose affair with President Clinton led to his impeachment, meets regularly with a program consultant to plan weekly menus and get suggestions on exercise.

Lewinsky has not been paid to endorse the diet program and is being treated just like any other client, said company spokesman Brian Luscomb. Some clients of the diet program are featured in company commercials, but Lewinsky is not scheduled to appear in any of the ads, he said.

Jenny Craig Inc., based in La Jolla, Calif., has approximately 750 weight loss centers worldwide. Lewinsky presently lives in New York City.
