Officials are hesitant to link the discovery to the disappearance of Mitrice Richardson, who vanished after being released from sheriff's custody last September.

Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore says the bones were removed from a Monte Nido area ravine Monday night and it could take weeks to identify the remains.

Sources told CBS affiliate KCAL that the remains were that of a female.

Richardson's family and the family of Donna Jou, who went missing in the area several years ago, went to the Malibu-Lost Hills sheriff's station Monday night and met with coroner assistant chief Ed Winter.
