Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who is up for re-election next week, issued this statement following the conviction of Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) on seven corruption counts:
“This is a sad but serious day. Sen. Stevens was found guilty by a jury of his peers, and now must face the consequences of those actions. As a result of his conviction, Sen. Stevens will be held accountable so the public trust can be restored.”
McConnell's Democratic opponent, Bruce Lunsford, is working hard to tie McConnell to Stevens.
