McCain Visits Ohio Disaster Relief Organization

(CBS)
From CBS News' John Bentley:

(WATERVILLE, OHIO) – With Hurricane Gustav bearing down on the Gulf Coast the same day the Republican convention is set to open, John McCain spent the morning at a disaster relief organization here that is sending food and emergency supplies to those affected by the storm. McCain packed two boxes of cleaning supplies and shook hands with about 40 volunteers at the International Services of Hope facility.

"I want to thank you," said Linda Greene, the director of ISOH, to McCain. "And I want to thank all the people of the Republican Party. And I'm very thankful – this is coming from my heart – for their not squandering a bunch of money like that and that you're actually going to help those people."

McCain also encouraged others to help out as much as they could.

"Linda just gave me her card and it has I think a message on it that I think epitomizes all of America and it says: 'Each one should use whatever gift he or she has received to serve others faithfully administering God's grace in various forms,'" McCain said.

"As the hurricane strikes Louisiana as we speak, all Americans I know will be motivated by those words of serving others and use whatever gifts we have to help our fellow Americans."
