McCain Likes Harleys Better Than Berliners, and Volunteers Cindy for Pageant

(CBS)

From CBS News' John Bentley:

(STURGIS, S.D.) – The roar of Harley-Davidsons was music to John McCain's ears here at the world's largest motorcycle rally. "Not long ago, a couple of hundred thousand Berliners made a lot of noise for my opponent," McCain said about Barack Obama's recent European tour. "I'll take the roar of 50,000 Harleys any day."

McCain was here to speak at the Buffalo Chip campground's annual Tribute to American Veterans and Active Duty Servicemen this evening, talking to the many veterans and soldiers that take part in the annual Sturgis Bike Week. But he also suggested his wife Cindy could participate in the festivities.

"I was looking at the Sturgis schedule and noticed that you have a beauty pageant and so I encouraged Cindy to compete," McCain said to cheers from the (mostly male) crowd. "With a little luck, she could be on the only woman ever to serve as both the first lady and Miss Buffalo Chip."

It is unlikely that Mrs. McCain participated. The "Miss Buffalo Chip Beauty Pageant - Bikinis on the Beach" was described by Jim Caple of EPSN as "essentially a topless beauty pageant. And occasionally bottomless, too."
