Man Told Son is Missing, Allegedly Leads Cops on High Speed Chase - April Fool's!

Michael Kelly (Rowan County Sheriff)

SALISBURY, NC (CBS) This might be the worst April Fool's prank ever conceived.

A North Carolina father says he got the call that all fathers dread - his mother said his 9-year-old son was missing. So, like any concerned father, Michael Kelly got in his car and raced to her house, a local news station reported Thursday.

He drove at speeds of up 120 mph, running a red light and even leading Rowan County deputies on a high speed chase on a major freeway, according to local news station WCNC. Clearly nothing was going to stop this man from finding his son.

Except it was all a joke! See, his son wasn't missing, it was April 1 - April Fool's Day! All a joke. An awesome, awesome joke. Sigh.

Now Kelly faces charges of felony speeding to elude arrest, driving with a suspended license and failure to stop at a red light, the local station reported.

Wonder if his mom is laughing now.
