LOS ANGELES (CBS/KCBS/AP) Actress Aasha Davis' brother-in-law has pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife Lesley Herring, who disappeared over a year ago.

Lyle Stanford Herring Sr., 56, is scheduled to be back in court June 30. The judge denied a request that he be released on his own recognizance. Herring is being held on $1 million bail.

Herring was arrested Wednesday at California State University, Northridge, where he works as a recruiter, following a 14-month investigation into his wife's disappearance.

Authorities say Herring's wife, Lesley Herring, disappeared in Feb. 2009. She was reported missing by her sister, Aasha Davis, who has appeared on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" and NBC's "Friday Night Lights."

Davis learned her sister hadn't shown up to work for several days before she vanished. Her body has never been found.

Herring denied last year that he was involved in his wife's disappearance. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
