"Lone Star" TV Show Strikes Gold for Fox

NEW YORK (CBS) "Lone Star," which debuted Monday night on Fox, seems to be in for the long con.

The show focuses on a Texas conman (played by James Wolk), who is living two different lives in two different cities.

In Midland, he goes by Robert, scams investors into pouring money into non-existent oil wells and lives with his girlfriend Lindsay (Eloise Mumford). In Houston, he answers to Bob, is married to Cat (Adrianne Palicki) and plans to raid the company of his new father-in-law, oil magnate Clint (Jon Voight).

Trained by his grifter father (David Keith), Robert/Bob is good at running his elaborate cons. But he might be looking for something he can't fake. When Clint offers Bob a legitimate job at his company, he seems genuinely interested in leaving his life of crime behind. But his father warns him that these people aren't his family - they're his marks.

Critical response has been positive. The Washington Post calls it "better than almost anything new this season," while the New York Times calls the show "clever" and "endearing."
