Liza Minnelli Back On Broadway

Today, Minnelli is releasing a new album titled, "Liza Minnelli: The Complete A&M Recordings," a two-CD set featuring her entire catalogue for A&M Records. It comprises four albums, one single and several rare outtakes that were recorded between 1968 and 1972.

Next week she will star in a limited Broadway engagement called "Liza's At The Palace...!" The show opens Wednesday, Dec. 3 at the Palace Theatre (Broadway & 47th Street) through Dec. 14.

The show features a Minnelli songfest including many of her personal favorites and signature hits, followed by a dance-filled tribute to the groundbreaking late-1940s nightclub act of Minnelli's godmother, Kay Thompson.

"It's fun," Minnelli told Early Show co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez. "The show is so filled with entertainment and energy and there is so much dancing and you know how much I love to dance, but I also have wonderful new songs."

Minnelli has always connected with music since she was a little girl.

"Well, it's the process really, how the words go with the music. But I've always looked for the story, what does the song say," she said.

According to Minnelli, when she was 8 years old and had a crush on a boy she would learn to sing romantic songs. While reminiscing, she broke into song.

Minnelli is thrilled with the resurgence and the interest in dancing and singing on TV.

"I think it's fabulous," she said. "My director and choreographer Ron Lewis, right? I auditioned for four years to get him to work with me. Right? And that was in 1970. And we haven't stopped working together since. And he choreographed this whole show and a lot of music of my godmother, Kate Thompson and like I said, some new songs."
