NEW YORK (CBS/AP) Lil' Kim's birthday party two years ago was not just a celebration, it was a murder scene.

Now a Times Square karaoke club worker has pleaded guilty to beating a patron to death on the roof with a steel pipe, and slashing her throat, while the club threw a party honoring the rapper.

Syed Rahman, 25, expects a sentence of 20 years to life after pleading guilty Tuesday in a Manhattan courthouse to murdering 24-year-old Ingrid Rivera.

It wasn't clear whether Lil' Kim was at the August 2008 party at Spotlight Live.

Rahman's lawyer, Peter Frankel, said his client and Rivera were strangers before they met at the club.

Frankel declined to describe what happened but said it was "a series of horrible events" fueled in part by Rahman's drinking and drug use.

This is not the first time that Lil' Kim, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, was associated with a murder.

She was accused of lying to the grand jury in connection with a deadly shooting outside a Manhattan radio station in 2001.

She was convicted of three counts of conspiracy and one count of perjury on March 17, 2005. Lil' Kim served 10 months in jail.
