Lessons Learned from Burning House

Each year, fire departments respond to roughly 400,000 home fires across the country -- leading to property loss, and worse, death. Around 4,000 people die in home fires each year -- an average of eight people each day.

Just how quickly can a house go up in flames?

Home improvement expert Danny Lipford gave "Early Show" viewers an idea, with the help of the Brentwood, Tenn. fire department.

However, sprinkler systems can curtail fire. The number of fire fatalities could come down, fire departments hope, as new regulations are enacted for home sprinkler systems in residential construction.
