Latest Trends In Tops

Following the latest fashions in tops can give your outfit a trendy feel. These tops can add some evening glamour or a touch of retro when paired with pants, skirts, or jeans. For The Early Show's Chic on a Shoestring segment, Suze Yalof Schwartz, executive fashion editor-at-large at Glamour magazine, showed some new looks. So put away your sweater twinsets, and be a little edgy and chic all at the same time.

BABY DOLL TOP:

At Glamour, the editors call this one "The Hollywood Top," because all the celebrities are wearing it.

The baby doll cut is very flattering for a small-busted woman or a woman with a tummy. It's very forgiving in the waist and is great after you have had too much to eat. And women should show off their shoulders; the shoulders are the part of a woman that never ages.

SPLURGE: Silk/chiffon top from Helen Wang - $250

STEAL: 100 percent polyester top from Carolina - $19.99

THE DIFFERENCE? The steal is cheaper because it's made of polyester. It's less breathable and does not last as long.

TIE-DYE WITH LAYER TANK:

These tops are "Flashdance meets Woodstock." Tie-dying is making a comeback this season. It was seen on the Prada runaway this past spring and now it has hit the malls across the United States.

These tops are the answer to how to wear off-the-shoulder tops and still wear a bra. Pair these tops with a tank that has a built-in shelf bra.

Long-sleeved tops are a great solution for women who want to conceal their arms.

Everyone is wearing layered tops these days. One (or even two) tanks layered under a shorter top look fabulous and are perfect for when you are unsure of the weather. Make sure to try different colors and lengths.

SPLURGE: $96 (Cotton shirt from Juicy: $66. Cotton tank from Juicy: $30)

STEAL: $24, Cotton top from Miken

THE DIFFERENCE? The splurge comes with the matching layer tank while the steal does not.

WRAP TOP WITH LINGERIE

These lemon-colored wrap sweaters look great paired with lingerie-inspired lace camisoles. They are complimentary for pear-shaped women, since they draw the eye upwards.

SPLURGE: $1,094, Silk/cashmere top from Marc Jacobs - $725, Hand knit pin-on flower from Marc Jacobs - $250, Silk camisole from Trina Turk - $119.

STEAL: $122, Cotton/silk top from Zara - $54.99, spandex/silk camisole from Express - $29

THE DIFFERENCE? The Marc Jacobs top is made of a silk/cashmere blend, which is more expensive. Also here you are paying for the name as well as the handmade flower, which is sold separately. The camisoles differ in price because the material of the Express tops is more flimsy and less breathable.

STRIPED LAYERED TEE:

Stripes can create the illusion of curves and look great on boy-shaped figures.

Again, layering tops is a huge trend - be creative and try different colors and lengths.

SPLURGE: $106, Cotton/lycra Ella Moss top - $72, cotton tank from James Perse - $34

STEAL: $24, cotton top from Self-Esteem

THE DIFFERENCE? The Ella Moss top is more expensive because it has Lycra in it, giving it a better fit. However, the Self-Esteem top, which is cheaper, comes with the tank that has a built in bra. Even more value for your money!
