Kids, Schools & the Net

The big push to get schools online has been pretty successful. So now what?

"The schools have the computers, but the teachers don't know how to use the Internet for the most part, and once they do learn, there's very little that's particularly aimed at education to help them with curriculum."

Judy Hamilton of Classroom Connect says her company aims to change that. The site, at classroom.com, helps teachers and students learn how to use the Internet and then gives them some great reasons to be there with online activities like the Quest series...

"We actually have a team of people who, several times a year, go to a location. Like the last one was the Galapagos Islands. And they spent a month down there and the classrooms are connected to the Quest team. And they study ecology, they study plants, animals, the kids solve mysteries. It's interactive, so the kids actually send email directing the team, where they should go next."

Coming up this fall is AsiaQuest.

"And the mystery will be, did Marco Polo really see what he said he saw in China?"
Registration for school and teachers is reasonable - as little as $29.
