Kids Give Thanks

For most adults, Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy the company of loved ones, spend time with family and friends, and to be thankful for the good things in one's life.

But as The Early Show's Dave Price found out from the students at the Northeast School in Montclair, N.J., Turkey Day can mean so much more.

Here are Price's questions and the children's answers:

The meaning of Thanksgiving

Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving?

Girl: The Pilgrims didn't have food when they were on the boat, so the Indians helped them make a house and a home and plant food.

Why can't we eat bologna on Thanksgiving?

Boy: Because it's not very nice to the pilgrims that invented it because they invented the turkey to eat it on Thanksgiving.

What is your favorite holiday of the whole year?

Girl: Christmas.

Where is Thanksgiving on your list?

Girl: November.

The big feast

Are you going to help out when it comes time to setting up for dinner?

Boy: No. I'm too young.

How old do you have to be to help out on Thanksgiving?

Boy: 12.

How old are you?

Boy: Nine.

If you could have anything for Thanksgiving, what would you eat?

Boy: Ribs.

Boy: My grandparents, my uncle and my cousins are going to come over.

How many pounds of turkey do you think your parents are going to have to make to feed them?

Boy: Since we're going to buy a big one, probably 2.

Why I am thankful

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

Boy: I'm thankful for my girlfriend, the world, being on television, my family and my friends.

What are you thankful for?

Girl: My fish.

Why are you thankful for your fish?

Girl: Because I like her name.

Boy: I'm thankful for having a wealthy family

Girl: I'm thankful for a mommy and daddy that love me, and I'm thankful for a bed to sleep in, and I'm thankful for a house to live in.

Boy: I'm also thankful for having a nice teacher. (Repeating after Price) Who gives me good grades; who tells my mom that I'm really good in school.

What is Price thankful for?

I'm thankful for my friends Harry and Hannah and Rene and Julie, and my mommy and daddy and my brothers, and I'm thankful I met you. Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!
