Katie Couric's Notebook: Denying The Holocaust

Hi, everyone

The Iranian foreign ministry has just concluded a two-day conference to "debate" the Nazi annihilation of six million Jews.

It's not a surprise... Iran's president has ALREADY described the Holocaust as a "myth'' and called for Israel to be wiped off the map. But it is extremely alarming.

67 participants from 30 countries attended. They included former U.S. Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, whose prepared remarks said the gas chambers didn't exist.

Many countries, including the United States and much of Europe, have condemned Iran for holding the conference. In Germany, Austria and France, it is even ILLEGAL to deny aspects of the Holocaust.

It's easy to dismiss the conference as a stunt designed to mock history and deny the truth of what happened during the Nazi genocide. But it's a chilling reminder to the world that there are powerful people trying to rewrite history. We ignore them at our own peril.

That's a page from my notebook.
