Katie Couric's Notebook: Columbine Anniversary

He was called "the boy in the window."

10 years ago today, Patrick Ireland dangled from a window at Columbine High School, bloody and fighting for survival. It's an indelible image ... from a horrific day.

No one who endured the shootings will ever forget them, nor will they forget the 13 members of their community who died.

But a lot can change in 10 years.

Patrick re-learned to walk and speak in the months after he was shot. He's now 27, married...and working as a financial planner.

Several of the student survivors have returned to Columbine ... as teachers. They told CBS News they will not let that day define who they are.

In Colorado, the flags are at half mast...a remembrance of the lives lost in this tragedy.

But today is also about triumph...Patrick's amazing recovery...the young teachers who have so bravely returned to Columbine...and a community that shielded faith and hope from deadly gunfire.

That's a page from my notebook.
