Joyride to Wal-Mart: Boy, 12, drove school bus 15 miles

PANAMA CITY, Fla. - A 12-year-old Florida boy was arrested after authorities say he took a school bus on a nearly 15 mile joyride to Wal-Mart.

Bay County deputies said the youth was riding his bicycle Tuesday at 4 a.m. when he spotted the unlocked school bus in someone's driveway, WFTV reports. Since the keys had been left inside, he decided to get in and drive off.

Wal-Mart employees called sheriff's deputies when they noticed the bus being driven erratically through their parking lot. The employees told the Panama City News Herald the driver appeared to be having difficulty parking the bus.

"It was just odd the way they were driving it," Roy Hoover, a Wal-Mart employee, told the News Herald. "He was having a hard time parking it, like he'd never drove one before."

True that.

The 12-year-old is charged with grand theft and felony criminal mischief.
