Josh Bolten On The Hill

White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten just walked into House Minority Whip Roy Blunt's (R-Mo.) office on the third-floor of the Capitol, demonstrating the hands-on approach the White House is taking to the expected House vote on the Wall Street bailout package later this week.

WIth the Senate expected to approve the bailout package tonight, focus will soon shift to the House, which is now scheduled to vote on the bill on Friday. The House rejected the bailout bill on Monday, stunning President Bush and the congressional leadership in both parties, but Senate Majority Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) have revised the bill by attaching a $100 billion tax-extender package to the larger bailout bill. The Senate will take up this revised legislation tonight.

White House officials have complained privately that the whip counts they got from the House GOP leadeship prior to Monday's historic defeat were flawed, and Bolten is meeting with Blunt to personally review the vote outlook.
