Johnny Depp and Steven Tyler collaborating? Why not?

(CBS) Last week, Steven Tyler's autobiography, "Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?" came out, and with it, his notion that Johnny Depp should play him if the book ever becomes a movie.

Depp's answer? "I can give it a shot. Why not?"

At the "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" premiere, the Aerosmith frontman and Jack Sparrow told Extra about their friendship and the idea that Depp would make a good on-screen Tyler.

As for writing songs together, Tyler said, "What else am I gonna do in L.A. in my downtime from 'Idol'?"

"We've been hanging out here and there and he's someone I've admired so greatly for such a long time, the idea of writing songs with him is a dream come true," Depp told Extra.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" opens nationwide May 20.
