(CBS) Last week, Steven Tyler's autobiography, "Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?" came out, and with it, his notion that Johnny Depp should play him if the book ever becomes a movie.

Depp's answer? "I can give it a shot. Why not?"

At the "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" premiere, the Aerosmith frontman and Jack Sparrow told Extra about their friendship and the idea that Depp would make a good on-screen Tyler.

As for writing songs together, Tyler said, "What else am I gonna do in L.A. in my downtime from 'Idol'?"

"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" opens nationwide May 20.
