Jill Biden To Visit France And Germany

Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, will be traveling to France and Germany from July 4th to July 7th, the White House announced today. It will be her first solo trip abroad since the vice president took office.

She plans on spending the Independence Day holiday with military members and their families in Germany .

"This is part of Dr. Biden's ongoing work to raise awareness and show appreciation for members of the military and their families," press release states.

After the holiday, Dr. Biden will travel to Paris to attend the Opening Ceremony of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization ("UNESCO") 2009 World Conference on Higher Education, at which she will deliver a keynote speech.

At the conference, she is to serve as head of U.S. delegation and is planning to affirm the administration's commitment to higher education, the White House says.
