Jennie Garth tells her children: Holidays a good time to think of others

Actress Jennie Garth thinks Christmas is a perfect time to teach her children about thinking of others.

"I think it's a great season to teach your kids that there are children out there that don't have access to toys and aren't getting toys for Christmas," the mother of three told CBSNews.com.

To show her kids she "walks the walk," Garth hosted an event along with eBay Thursday to benefit Toys for Tots.

The actress showed shoppers how to donate to Toys for Tots, while crossing items off of their own lists at "The eBay Toy Box" pop-up store in New York.

"eBay has made it very easy for people to donate to Toys for Tots," Garth said. Shoppers can use their smartphones to purchase gifts instantly for the people in their life and also click a button and donate to Toys for Tots. In addition to that, eBay will be matching every Toys for Tots donation.

Garth hasn't finished her own holiday shopping just yet, but she says she has no intention of frantically running from store to store.

"I do most of my shopping online," she explained. "I've made a dent [in my holiday shopping], but barely just started actually."

This holiday season, Garth plans on "hunkering down" with her girls -Luca Bella, Lola Ray and Fiona Eve- and doing a lot of baking. Their father is "Twilight" actor Peter Facinelli whom Garth divorced this year.

"We make a lot of cookies," she said of one of their family traditions. "It's one of our favorite gifts to give - fresh baked goods."

In the new year, Garth will be busy meeting with writers and producers to develop a show with her "Beverly Hills, 90210" co-star Luke Perry.

" It's in its development phase right now, we don't really know what we are doing, but we know we are working together and that is all that really matters," she says of working with her team.

In addition to that show, Garth will be shooting a holiday 2013 film in Canada in January.
