Indiana farmer, 81, rescued after being buried in grain bin

INDIANAPOLIS -- An 81-year-old farmer rescued after being buried beneath an avalanche of corn inside a grain bin on his family's southwestern Indiana farm is back at work just two days after the near-fatal accident.

A son of Bill White says the man returned to work Wednesday on the family farm near the town of Switz City, about 60 miles southwest of Indianapolis. He was released from an Indianapolis hospital Tuesday.

Steve White says his father survived being trapped amid tons of grain partly because he's "10 times tougher than the average guy."

Bill White was pulled Monday afternoon from the quicksand-like corn after fast-thinking relatives and farmhands drove plywood boards into the corn around him.

Bill White had been helping clear wet corn from the bin when the accident occurred.
