How To Look Like A Dream Girl

Beyonce goes from wide-eyed teenager to grown-up diva in her new movie, "Dreamgirls." That meant make-up artists had to take her bootyliciousness down a couple of notches.

"At the beginning of the movie, Beyoncé plays a 16-year-old girl, Deena, who's not very glamorous," makeup pro Francesca Tolot told Glamour.com's Andrea Pomerantz Lustig. "This was a problem, because even without makeup, Beyoncé stands out! I'd apply the tiniest bit of foundation, gloss and mascara, and she'd be piercing the screen!"

In the movie, the Dreams are a fictitious Motown-style "girl group" from the 1960s and '70s who reflect the styles of the times. Tolot believes that with enough glitter and a few make-up tips, anybody can channel her inner Diana Ross.

"One of my favorite makeup moments is the disco scene when Beyoncé sings 'One Night Only,'" says Tolot. "I used makeup glitter on her eyes in the colors of the dress: lime green, dark green, turquoise. Then I highlighted her brows and the tops of her cheekbones with white glitter, did a silvery spray all over her face (you can get it at beauty supply stores) and finished with a light-pink lip gloss."

Makeup artist Shutchai Tym Buacharem, who did the make-up for Jennifer Hudson and Anika Noni Rose for the film, brought out the heavy mascara arsenal for ultimate glam. "The first time you see the group transformed into The Dreams is a real makeover moment," Buacharem said.

For that scene, all three singers wore their lids, a highlighter on their brow bones, black eyeliner winged out at the ends and two pairs of false lashes. To try it yourself, Buacharern recommends using a soft, sheer blue hue as a wash over a classic smoky black or gray eye, accompanied by major black mascara.
