Hero dad saves daughter from kidnapper

STOCKTON, Calif. - A man grabbed an 11-year-old girl and tried to run off with her but the child's father wrested her from the kidnapper's grasp, CBS Sacramento reported Sunday.

The incident happened Saturday around 7 p.m. at an apartment complex on North Pershing Avenue in Stockton. Stockton police said they received reports that a man was walking around the complex grabbing young girls.

At some point, the man picked up the 11-year-old girl and tried to take off running with her, police said. But the girl's father saw what was happening, confronted the kidnapper and was able to pull his child from the suspect's grip.

The suspect began running up Pershing Avenue, but the father and other family members caught up to him and held him until authorities showed up, police said.

Gerald Herbert Childs, 33, was was arrested and booked on multiple counts of attempted kidnapping and annoying or molesting a child charges.
